CANBERRA, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Australian Treasurer Wayne Swan on Thursday slammed the opposition for making inaccurate claims about the cost of the government's emissions trading scheme (ETS).
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott said the scheme would amount to a tax of up to 400 billion Australian dollars (365 billion U.S. dollars).
Abbott said the exact figure was unknown because the government had yet to release its ETS costings.
However, Swan told reporters the Treasury released its climate change modelling in October 2008 and it's the opposition who have yet to make clear details of their policies.
"I think the country deserves some sort of considered policy making and statements from the leader of the opposition than they are getting at the moment," Swan said.
"It's another example of Mr Abbott being erratic and making inaccurate claims.
"There's already a 250 billion Australian dollar (228 billion U.S. dollars) hole in his costs of particular targets."
