MEXICO CITY, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Felipe Calderon on Wednesday discussed climate changes and collaboration between his country and Turkey in international forums with visiting Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"Because of the many common points that bring us together, I am sure that Mexico and Turkey can and should work together in the many international forums of which we are both members," Calderon said at an official welcome ceremony at the presidential residence Los Pinos in Mexico City.

Turkey and Mexico are both members of the Group of 20 nations (G20).

In his speech, Calderon noted three common policy challenges facing the two countries, which are fighting international organized crime, the inclusion of developing nations in international financial institutions and climate changes.

Erdogan, who is on an official visit to Mexico along with Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, arrived here after meeting U.S. President Barack Obama and other senior U.S. officials in Washington.

Both Turkey and Mexico are currently serving a two-year term on the United Nations Security Council, which began on Jan. 1, 2009.
