GENEVA, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese short-track speed skating Olympic champion Yang Yang and Ireland's Pat McQuaid, the president of the international cycling federation UCI, are among six candidates to become members of the International Olympic Committee.
The IOC executive board meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland nominated the six new members for election at the IOC general assembly in Vancouver in February, ahead of the winter Games.
Joining Yang and McQuaid on the list are Prince Faisal of Jordan, Barry Maister, secretary general of the New Zealand Olympic committee, Maria Casada Estupinan of Spain, the head of the International Triathlon Union, and Dagmawit Girmay Berhane, an official of the Ethiopian national Olympic committee.
The six new members will bring the total IOC membership to 114, including 20 women. The IOC currently has 112 members, but four will retire at the end of the year.
