OTTAWA, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- The number of deaths from the A/H1N1flu in Canada has dropped considerably during the past week, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada.
Only six deaths were reported on Dec. 3-8, the latest surveillance period. That is a sharp drop from the 28 deaths between Nov. 26 and Dec. 3, figures released by the agency show.
The total number of deaths due to H1N1 in Canada since the influenza pandemic emerged in the spring is 363, the health agency said.
Health officials said last week there have been also fewer reported cases of the flu in recent days, signaling that the peak has possibly passed in the country.
At least 8,769 people worldwide have died from H1N1 since April, according to the WHO.
