BERLIN, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle on Tuesday condemned the car bomb attacks in Baghdad which took place earlier on the day, saying that the terrorists attempted to derail the political process of stabilizing Iraq.

"That cannot be allowed to happen," said a written statement issued by the German Foreign Ministry in the name of Westerwelle.

"Dialogue and reconciliation, not violence, will enable a peaceful future for all the people of Iraq," he said.

Westerwelle condemned the "brutal series of attacks" and voiced Germany's condolences to people who lost loved ones in the four blasts.

Earlier on Tuesday, several car bomb attacks hit war-torn Baghdad, leaving at least 100 deaths and hundreds of injuries.
