TEHRAN, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Head of Tehran police, Brigadier General Azizullah Rajabzadeh said Tuesday that 204 people were arrested during anti-government demonstrations on Monday, which marked the Students Day in Iran, local satellite Press TV reported.
Rajabzadeh said that 165 men and 39 women were arrested during "riots for instigating violence and disrupting public order," according to Press TV.
Their cases would be handed to the judiciary after police investigation, he added.
Iranian student supporters of the opposition leader and the defeated candidate in Iran's June presidential election Mir-Hossein Mousavi clashed with police around Tehran University campus on Iran's Students Day on Monday.
Earlier on Tuesday, Iran's Prosecutor General Gholam- Hossein Mohseni-Ejei warned "law violators" and the violators of country's order of tougher action against them.
