China investigates Japan's detention of fishing boat

    BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's Foreign Ministry confirmed Tuesday that Japanese authorities have detained a Chinese fishing boat for alleged illegal fishing.

    Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu gave no details of the vessel or its crew, but she urged Japanese authorities to ensure the crew members' legal rights.  Full story

China expects developed countries to meet commitments on emissions

    A Chinese official Tuesday called on developed countries to earnestly fulfill their commitments and take the lead in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in large quantities and to transfer funds and technology to developing nations.

    Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu made the remarks at a regular press briefing Tuesday in response to a question on the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen. Full story

China expects U.S.-DPRK dialogue to restart stalled Korean nuclear talks

    BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese Foreign Ministry official said Tuesday the government hoped dialogue between the United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will revive the stalled Korean nuclear talks.

    "We back the U.S.-DPRK engagement and dialogue. We expect the dialogue to help restart the six-party talks," spokeswoman Jiang Yu told the regular briefing on Tuesday. Full story

China condemns terror blasts in Pakistan

    BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday condemned a series of terrorist blasts in Pakistan that killed at least 40 people and injured more than 100.

    "We condemn the terrorist blasts in Lahore and Peshawar of Pakistan. We stand against terrorism in whatever form," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu told the regular briefing on Tuesday.  Full story
