LA PAZ, Bolivia, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Bolivian President Evo Morales on Sunday urged the people to vote to strengthen the democracy in the country, and he added that "it is a day of democratic party and all the Bolivians reaffirm our will to affirm the destinies of the country."

Morales voted on Sunday in 14 de Septiembre town, Tunari Village, in the Chapare province of Cochabamba department in the center of the country.

Morales voted at 8:42 a.m. (1242 GMT), accompanied by Government Palace's spokesman Ivan Canelas.

Morales was acclaimed by his followers and said he trusts on being reelected for the period 2010-2015.

"The people has the right to chose, with its vote the people will decide if they are (in favor) of the change of process or with the neo-liberalism," Morales said.

More than 5.1 million Bolivians were registered to vote for a President, a Vice President, 130 deputies and 36 senators.

In five departments (Chuquisaca, La Paz, Oruro, Potosi and Santa Cruz) there will also be a referendum on autonomy.

For the first time, 160,000 Bolivians living in the United States, Spain, Argentina and Brazil will vote.

The electoral day in Bolivia began with a pacific climate, chief of the Observers Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS), Horacio Serpa said on Sunday.

"These are going to be tranquil elections. We hope all the citizens participate with civic will and democratic criteria," Serpa said after the elections were official started.

Serpa said that he trusts on the biometric census and he said that the 124 observers of the OAS in the nine departments of the country will be pendent of any complaint.

A 124-member observer team from the Organization of American States and an EU mission are in the country to monitor the elections.
