HONG KONG, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Beijing Olympian Zhang Qingpeng made a 23-point haul and had seven baskets in Chinese mainland's overwhelming 107-36 win over Macao, China in a basketball group match at the East Asian Games here on Saturday.
Zhang, 28, led the Chinese team to the irreversible lead in each of the four quarters against the amateur team from Macao.
Zhang, the only player competing in the Beijing Olympics in this reserve team, also added five assists.
Sun Zhe, a giant center with a height of 2.20 meters, had 13 points in his 14 minutes on court.
The 19-year-old joined the Chinese Basketball Association league last year and was pinned high hopes to succeed Chinese top basketball player and NBA star Yao Ming, dubbed the Little Giant at 2.26m.
Lao Sio Fong had nine points and three rebound for Macao while Leong Chi Seng put in eight points and six baskets.
Chinese mainland virtually ensured a berth in the semifinals with one round to go in the four-team Group A. So did Chinese Taipei which beat Mongolia 132-94.
Chinese mainland topped the group standings with two wins and better points difference while Chinese Taipei were second.
Chinese mainland face Chinese Taipei in the last group match on Monday.
