Australian exhibition showcases Asia Pacific art

    CANBERRA, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Queensland Art Gallery Director Tony Ellwood said on Friday a new exhibition would be the first to present art works from Asia countries including the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Iran, Turkey, Cambodia and Myanmar in Australia.

    Among the 313 art works selected for the Sixth Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, 69 are from the DPRK will be exhibited at the exhibition.

    The show, which opens on Saturday at the Queensland Art Galleryand the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, brings together 160 artists from 25 countries.

    "It's now the largest collection of contemporary art from the Asia and Pacific region," Queensland Premier Anna Bligh Bligh told reporters.

    "It is a great feather in the cultural cap of Queensland.

    The exhibition will run until April 2010.
