BEIJING, Oct. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- World's No 1 golfer Tiger Woods said he had let his family down and apologized for "transgressions," but asked the media to leave him in peace.

In a statement Wednesday on his Web site, he wrote, "I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart."

By "transgressions," he may hint at an extramarital relationship. "I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves," he said, pledging to be a better husband and father.

Woods has been married for five years and has two children.

Woods' statement came hours after the US Weekly published a story claiming Woods had an affair with Jaimee Grubbs, 24.
