BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday said it expected Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's visit to the country this week will produce positive outcomes.
"With the joint efforts, we expect and believe Harper's visit will deliver positive results and boost bilateral relations, " Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang told reporters here.
Harper will arrive in Beijing on Wednesday for a five-day official visit, the first since he came to power in 2006.
Qin said the Chinese government paid much attention to Harper's visit as China and Canada have witnessed a good momentum of improved relations in recent years.
During Harper's stay in China, leaders of both countries will have wide-ranging and in-depth discussion on strengthening trade relations and international issues of common concern, Qin said.
Earlier, Harper said in a press release announcing his China visit that Canada is "committed to a strong relationship with China that reflects our mutual respect and the need for practical cooperation."
"Our two countries enjoy a growing partnership, sharing significant interests in trade and investment, the environment and regional security," he said.
