KABUL, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- A police constable shot dead four of his colleagues before he was killed on the run in west Afghanistan's Nimroz province, provincial governor Ghulam Dastgir Azad said Monday.

"A policeman opened fired on their colleagues in a village Rakani on Sunday killing four colleagues and injuring four others," Azad told Xinhua.

After committing the crime, the culprit fled away and on the way Afghan soldiers asked him to stop but he opened fire and injured a soldier. In retaliation the soldiers returned fire and killed him, he said.

However, he did not reveal the motive of the killings, adding that investigation has been initiated.

In a similar incident weeks ago a policeman opened fire on British soldiers in the southern Helmand province, killing five soldiers.
