TEGUCIGALPA, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- De facto Honduran President Roberto Micheletti attended on Sunday to the voting center in his city of origin, El Progreso in the north of the country.
Micheletti attended to vote at 9:15 a.m. (1515 GMT) and after voting he told the press that "Hondurans have not paid attention to the fear that some bombs tried to arouse, here is the people ofall sectors voting."
Micheletti said he hopes the electoral day continues as it has been to the moment: in tranquillity and without violence and he urged Honduran "not to have fear, the authorities have given the guaranties, the Armed Forces and the Police, of this day being calm, there will be peace and protection for everybody."
Micheletti also said that he will respect the decision taken on Dec. 2 by the Natinal Congress about the restitution of ousted President Manuel Zelaya.
Micheletti was the President of the National Congress before the coup of June 28 against Zelaya, after the coup, the Congress appointed him President of Honduras. However, the international community has refused to recognize him as the Constitutional President of this Central American country.
Honduras opened the country's general elections at 7:16 a.m. (1316 GMT), the voting centers will close at 4:00 p.m. (2200 GMT).
More than 4.6 million Hondurans were registered to vote to choose President, three Vice Presidents, deputies to the National Congress, deputies to the Central American Parliament (Parlacen) and mayor, among more than 13,000 candidates.
There were established 5,200 voting centers across the country, including six centers in the United States for those Honduran citizens living there.
