Russian intelligence officers said Saturday that the derailment of a luxury train that killed at least 26 people and injured dozens more was caused by a bomb blast.

    MOSCOW, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-five people have died in Friday's Russian luxury train derailment triggered by a bomb attack, Russian officials said on Sunday.

    Earlier reports put the death toll at 26, with 96 people injured and another 18 missing.

    Russian Emergency Situations Minister Sergei Shoigu said 26 people have been listed as unaccounted for so far.

    Russian Health and Social Development Minister Tatyana Golikova said the same day that 19 bodies of the victims had been identified by their relatives, and a total of 85 passengers on the derailed train had been hospitalized, among whom 21 were in grave condition.

    The Nevsky Express traveling from Moscow to St. Petersburg was derailed Friday night near the town of Bologoye on the border between the Tver and Novgorod regions, some 400 km northwest of Moscow.

    The 14-car train was carrying 653 passengers, including 29 crew.

    The derailment was caused by a homemade bomb equivalent to 7 kg of TNT, Federal Security Service chief Alexander Bortnikov said earlier.

    Latest reports showed there were six foreigners on the derailed train, said Golikova, adding that one Italian and one Belgian were injured in the accident.

    Conditions of the other four foreign nationals, including one from Azerbaijan, one from Belarus and two from Ukraine, were being specified, she said. Earlier reports said there were only three foreign nationals.

Russia eyes suspects involved in train derailment

    MOSCOW, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Several people are suspected of bombing the Russian express train that derailed on Friday night, Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev said Saturday.

    "There are several people who could have been involved in the attack," Nurgaliyev told reporters. Full story

Train derailment triggered by improvised explosive device: Russian security service

    MOSCOW, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Friday's deadly train derailment was triggered by an improvised explosive device equivalent to seven kilos of TNT, head of the Federal Security Service (FSB) Alexander Bortnikov told President Dmitry Medvedev Saturday.

    "Criminology experts have come to a preliminary conclusion that there was an explosion of an improvised explosive device equivalent to seven kilos of TNT," Bortnikov said, cited by the Interfax news agency. Full story

Train derailment a terrorist attack, says Russian investigator 

     MOSCOW, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Elements of an explosive device have been found at the site where a Russian express train derailed late Friday, said a Russian investigator.

    "Indeed, this was a terrorist attack," said Vladimir Markin, a spokesman for the Investigative Committee within the Russian prosecution system.  Full story

26 confirmed dead, 18 missing in Russian train derailment     

      MOSCOW, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-six people have been confirmed dead as of 01:00 p.m. Moscow time (1000GMT) Saturday in the derailment of a Russian express train, with another 18 people unaccounted for, said Russia's health minister.

    "As of this time, we received reports on 26 deaths, and the fates of 18 other people are so far unknown," Health and Social Development Minister Tatyana Golikova told reporters.  Full story
