COLOMBO, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's former Army chief and opposition front runner in the upcoming Presidential election General Sarath Fonseka declared that he was not averse to war crimes probe.

"If there are doubts it will be good to clear them," General Fonseka launching his presidential bid here Sunday told reporters.

Fonseka said that investigations ought to be based on clear and specific evidence and not based on mere allegations.

Sri Lankan troops conducted the campaign against the Tamil Tiger rebels which ended in May.

Fonseka said he was part of the Rajapakse administration as its Army Commander and therefore was open to investigation. He said his Army was a disciplined outfit.

Sri Lankan government headed by President Mahinda Rajapakse, Fonseka's rival in the Jan. 26, 2010 election, has refused to submit the country to a war crimes investigation.
