WASHINGTON, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- The United States issued a stern warning to Iran on Friday, saying that "time is running out" for Tehran to cooperate on the nuclear issue.

"Our patience and that of the international community is limited, and time is running out," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said in a formal response to a resolution adopted by the International Atomic Energy Agency earlier Friday.

"If Iran refuses to meet its obligations, then it will be responsible for its own growing isolation and the consequences," Gibbs said.

The IAEA Board of Governors passed the resolution during a meeting in Vienna, calling for the "full cooperation" of Iran to clarify all outstanding issues involving its nuclear program.

It was reported that the resolution required Iran to stop construction on nuclear facilities in Qom.

Shortly after the adoption of the resolution, an anonymous official from the State Department welcomed the IAEA resolution, describing the move as "significant."

Friday's action was the IAEA's first adoption of a resolution against Iran since February 2006.
