KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Malaysian government would take measures to promote the country as a regional green technology hub, a Malaysian official said here on Thursday.
Malaysian Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui made the remarks after opening the International Green tech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference here.
Chin said that the green technology industry, which would be one of the country's new growth engines, would be the Malaysian government's economic focus, as advocated by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Chin said that green technology could be the catalyst to boost the industry and initiatives were taken to expedite green technology development, including the provision of soft loans totaled to 1.5 billion ringgit (428.57 million U.S. dollars).
The loans would be given to qualified players supplying and utilizing green technology, Chin added.
In the way the country was growing the green technology industry, a lot of differences would be seen under the 11th Malaysia Plan, a five-year plan rolled out to develop various sectors in the country for the well-being of the people.
While the 9th Malaysia Plan is coming to the end, the 10th Malaysia Plan will be tabled in Malaysia's Parliament next year.
