BANGKOK, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's anti-government group the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) will review Wednesday whether to postpone their mass rally scheduled for this weekend after ex-Premier Thaksin Shinawatra on Tuesday urged the key leaders to postpone it as it is not an appropriate time, Thai media reported.

Thaksin made the comment through a phone-in as he addressed a meeting of the opposition Puea Thai members of parliament, Thai News Agency quoted Puea Thai MP Surapong Tovichakchaikul as saying.

"The UDD leaders will meet Wednesday to consider whether to continue the rally. The outcome of the meeting could be both to continue or postpone the protest," Jatuporn Prompan, a Puea Thai party member and key UDD leader, was quoted as saying.

The UDD announced earlier that they will hold a mass rally in Bangkok from Nov. 28 to Dec. 2, aiming to topple Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's government. They said the rally will attract 1million UDD supporters, or so called red-shirts, from all over the country.

Thaksin in Tuesday's phone-call told his supporters that the public disagreed with the timing of the upcoming UDD protest, which is close to Dec. 5, the King's birthday.

He called on the red-shirts' leaders to review their plan as a number of Puea Thai MPs also disagreed with the idea.

Thaksin also urged the MPs to prepare for the general election saying he is confident that will be held in the first half of next year, according to Surapong.

On the other hand, the government advised earlier that the UDD postpone its rally as the main site will be used during the protest period to rehearse the annual Trooping of the Colours of the Royal Guard and preparations for activities to mark the birthday of the King.

The cabinet on Tuesday had approved to invoke the Internal Security Act (ISA) across Bangkok from Nov. 28 to Dec. 14 to maintain law and order during the scheduled rally.
