ROME, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Food and Agriculture Organization's top governing body has decided to set up a stronger and more effective system of global food security governance, the agency said Tuesday
The 36th session of the FAO Conference, which ended Monday, agreed to strengthen the Committee on World Food Security so it can become the "foremost inclusive international platform for discussion, coordination and policy convergence in order to eliminate world hunger," the FAO said in a news release.
The CFS will include all 192 members of the FAO and 124 members of the United Nations, representatives of international organizations, NGOs, the private sector and civil society, the statement added.
The CFS serves as a forum in the United Nations System for review and follow-up on policies concerning world food security. The World Summit on Food security held here last week agreed that the CFS should be a central component of the Global Partnership for Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition.
