BANGKOK, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- It is essential for the Thai government to impose the Internal Security Act (ISA) in Bangkok to ensure peace and security during a series of mass anti-government rallies, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Tuesday.
The government has to impose the ISA law for the entire capital since the anti-government protestors will reportedly create a scattered chaos during the rallies in Bangkok, the Thai News Agency quoted Abhisit as saying.
However, the ISA law, which will be enforced as a preventive measure, will not affect the tourism industry, Abhisit said.
The weekly cabinet meeting on Tuesday agreed to enforce the ISAlaw for the whole area of capital Bangkok from Nov. 28 to Dec. 14 to ensure law and order during the mass anti-government rallies.
The United Front for Democracy against Democracy (UDD) or the red-shirted people will stage the mass anti-government rallies from Nov. 28 to Dec. 2.
The UDD gathering will start from about 12.00 a.m., local time, on Nov. 28, at the Democracy Monument on Rat-cha-dam-nern road inside Dusit district in the center of capital Bangkok.
The rally purpose is to bring down the coalition government, while the UDD group expects at least one million UDD supporters will join the rallies.
The UDD group aims to overthrow the Democrat-led coalition government by ending 2009 as it could achieve its objective to topple the government since there is a corruption problem in several ministries, the group said.
