TEHRAN, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast Sunday criticized the recent remarks of the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Iran's post-election issues, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Last week, Clinton spoke out on the death sentences issued by Iran's Judiciary on five people recently in connection with protests following the country's disputed presidential election in June.

"The comments of the U.S. secretary of state were seemingly based on wrong information which neglected the actions perpetrated by the accused people," Mehmanparast was quoted as saying.

Labeling a member of a terrorist group as a political activist was a clear case of interference in a country's domestic affairs, Mehmanparast said referring to Clinton's remarks.

Membership in a terrorist group which targeted innocent people was undoubtedly a clear case of illegal act which was regarded as a criminal act in every setting, added Mehmanparast.

Clinton has called the sentences "unfortunate and distressing" and said that the United States will continue to support the rights of Iranian people.

Protests gripped Tehran and other Iranian cities after the June presidential election, amid claims that the vote had been rigged in favor of the incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
