TOKYO, 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi was interviewed Saturday by Japanese state broadcaster NHK on various issues.

    In the interview, Yang answered questions concerning China's development and its role on the international stage, China-Japan as well as China-U.S. relations, regional cooperation in East Asia and the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.

    Also in the day, Yang met separately with former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda and Kyoto Prefecture governor Keiji Yamada.

   Yang said after the new government was formed after the Aug. 30general election of Japan, leaders of the two countries have met under many circumstances to reach important consensus on strengthening strategic mutual beneficial relations. Chinese FM, Japanese Diet Speakers vow to enhance ties
