TEGUCIGALPA, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- The de facto Honduran government said Friday that citizens are prohibited to carry weapons during the upcoming elections on Nov. 29.

The Council of Ministers said the decree will come into force on Nov. 23.

In Honduras, violent gangs often carry weapons left over from decades of civil wars in the region.

Rafael Pineda Ponce, de facto Minister of the Presidency, said any weapons carried by citizens "will be seized, registered and later given to its owners."

The Board of Ministers also approved a decree for reservists of the Armed Forces to enforce security on the election day.

Honduras will host elections on Nov. 29 to choose a president, 128 deputies for the Congress, 20 for the Central American Parliament and 298 mayors.

President Manuel Zelaya was forced out of his country in a coupon June 28, which was condemned by the international community. He has been staying in the Brazilian embassy in the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa since he secretly returned to the country in late September.
