PYONGYANG, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), has called for more stock-breeding farms to improve people's diet after visiting a military farm recently, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Friday.
The July 18 Cattle Farm under Korean People's Army Unit 580, covering more than 20,000 square meters, is a large stock-breeding center mass-producing beef, according to the report.
Kim said the DPRK had favorable conditions for breeding grass-eating domestic animals.
He stressed the need to pay attention to the research and development of breeding cattle suited to the country's topographical features and introducing them to production.
It was essential to intensify scientific research, widely introduce advanced technology and steadily raise the skill of officials, workers and technicians, he said.
The KCNA did not give the specific date and place of the inspection tour in the report, the first of a Kim visit since Nov.8.
