3,000 computers donated to Tibet's schools

    BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- A total of 3,000 computers were donated to Tibet on Tuesday to step up the development of the region's educational sector and enrich students' extracurricular life.

    The move was part of the campaign titled "sending computers to the western region" jointly initiated by the Civilization Work Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture.

    The computers will be distributed to middle schools and primary schools throughout Tibet, so as to enable more students to obtain information from the Internet and improve the underdeveloped network-based education in the region.

Migrants' children in Sanjiangyuan area enjoy schooling 

    BEIJING, Nov. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- The Sanjiangyuan Vocational School in Qinghai Province has enrolled 600 children of farmers and herders since 2007 from the ecological migration community in the area on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

    Known as the "water tower of China", the Sanjiangyuan area at an altitude of 4,000 meters, is the source of Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang rivers.  Full story

32 mln yuan allocated for Tibetan students' free vocational education 

    BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Southwest China's Sichuan Province had allocated 31.91 million yuan by the end of September as tuition and subsidies for 12,000 students from its Tibetan-inhabited areas.

    These students will study in secondary vocational or technical schools in other parts of Sichuan, according to the Sichuan Provincial Finance Department.  Full story

Education greatly improved in Bome, SE Tibet 

    Sept. 21 -- Education in Bome County, southeast Tibet's Nyingchi Prefecture has greatly improved in the past 60 years.

    Before 1951, there was not a school in the modern sense in the county. In 1952, the first primary school was set up with only 18 students enrolled.  Full story
