MADRID, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Spain striker David Villa scored two goals in Spain's 5-1 win over Austria and then proclaimed his country was favorite to win next summer's World Cup.
Villa scored twice in the first half as Spain cruised past an Austrian side reduced to 10 men.
It was a happy return to the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna where the Spanish were crowned European Champions in 2008 and the Valencia forward predicts that next summer they will go on to greater things.
"You have to realize that Spain is playing some spectacular football and although we are doing it now and tomorrow is another day, we have to be realistic and say we are favorites for the World Cup," he told Spanish paper Diario AS.
"I am happy to have been able to come to this ground in Vienna again and remember the lovely sensations we enjoyed two summers ago," added Villa.
Spain will not play another friendly match until March 2010, but he was confident that nothing would change in the meantime.
"We are going to be a while without seeing each other again, because there are no games until March, but it is always a motivation to be able to play for the national team. We want to win games and to keep improving, as we have done against Austria," he said.
Cesc Fabrigas, Dani Guiza and Pablo Hernandez scored Spain's other goals on the night.
