IPC 2009 General Assembly and Conference opens in Malaysia

    KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- The 2009 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) General Assembly and Conference opened here on Thursday.

    Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak officiated the opening ceremony held in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center.

    The four-day meeting lured more than 300 representatives from 125 National Paralympic Committees, 15 sports, the five regions and all International Organizations of Sports for the Disabled, according to the IPC.

    The election of IPC's new Governing Board for the 2009-2013 term will take place during the meeting.

    Issues such as eligibility for athletes with intellectual impairments, anti-doping education, IPC athlete licensing as well as a sports data management system will be discussed at the meeting.

    Founded on Sept. 22 1989, the IPC is an international non-profit organization formed and run by 162 National Paralympic Committees from five regions and four disability specific international sports federations. It organizes the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games.
