JAKARTA, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) is deeply concerned about global climate change issue that makes it continues sending its employees to take part in climate and environment workshops aimed at keeping the firm's environmental-friendly drive stay in place, a senior HSBC Indonesia said here on Tuesday.
"HSBC has been teaming up with four prominent environment global NGOs that consisted of Climate Group, Earth watch Institute, Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in providing climate change and environment workshops for its employees in several places in the world," HSBC Indonesia Senior Vice President Group Communications & Corporate Sustainability Agung Laksamana told a press conference held in HSBC Learning Center here.
According to Agung, HSBC Indonesia has sent a number of employees to take part in the workshops since it started in 2007.
Agung said that HSBC Group has allocated 100 million U.S. dollars for the program called HSBC Climate Partnership (HCP) that would end in 2012.
As now 600 HSBC employees from 50 countries had took part in the environment workshop program held in China, India, the United States and Brazil, Agung said.
He added that HSBC expects to send a total of 2,000 employees, which it dubs as HSBC Climate Champions, to take part in the workshops by 2012.
"After taking part in the workshops, our climate champions are expected to become the 'transformation agents' who make people aware on environment issues in their own environs, be it in the office or in their neighborhoods," Agung said.
According to Agung, for Asia Pacific region, the climate workshop is centered in Gutianshan National Nature Reserve, Zhejiang province in China.
HSBC employees taking part in the workshop would have chances to take part in climate change and nature researches with experienced experts and were obliged to draft green business operation programs, Agung added.
