MADRID, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Spain coach Vicente del Bosque will make changes to his side that plays in Austria on Wednesday night.

Spain again showed its World Cup credentials with a 2-1 win at home to Argentina on Saturday night thanks to two goals from midfielder Xavi Alonso.

Now the Spanish return to the Ernst Happel Stadium, where they were crowned European champions in the summer of 2008.

With both Barcelona and Real Madrid playing in the Spanish BBVA Primera Liga on Saturday, Del Bosque will not want to risk tiring out any of his key players and will take the chance to give minutes to players who are not regular starters.

Barcelona defender Carles Puyol didn't train due to a slight muscle problem on Monday and his coach will leave him on the bench. Juan Mata also has a slight problem that will keep him out of the starting 11.

Cesc Fabrigas has an excellent chance of starting the game after the Arsenal midfielder admitted that winning a regular place in the Spanish national side was the biggest challenge of his career.

Alvaro Negredo could also be handed the opportunity to show he is the man to cover for the injured Fernando Torres.

Negredo came on as a late substitute against Argentina, as did his Sevilla club-mate winger Jesus Navas.

Navas looked impressive in the 10 minutes he was on the pitch on Saturday night and Del Bosque will be tempted to give him longer this time.

Spain's win over Argentina lifted it back to the top place in the FIFA ranking and Del Bosque's side is clear favorite to beat an Austrian team that failed to qualify for the World Cup.

However, with the Spanish clubs facing a busy end to 2009, Wednesday night could be more a question of protecting tired legs and giving a chance to fringe players than in producing brilliant football.
