KABUL, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- In a terrible act a mother and her infant were killed as an explosive device went off inside a clinic in Herat province west of Afghanistan, a local newspaper reported Monday.

    "The gruesome incident occurred in Gulran district Saturday night when the explosive device planted by militants inside a stove exploded, killing a mother and her newly born child," Arman-e-Millie quoted Minister for Public Health Syed Mohammad Amin Fatimi as saying.

    Three more persons including a nurse were injured, the newspaper further said.

    Meantime, a local official Ghulam Farooq Majroh said that a hand grenade apparently was planted inside the stove and when the nurse wanted to burn wood inside the stove in order to warm the room suddenly it exploded and causing the tragedy.
