KATHMANDU, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- The World Diabetes Day was celebrated throughout Nepal Saturday by organizing various awareness programs with the main slogan of "get knowledge of diabetes and control it".
November 14 that marks the birthday of Dr. Frederic Banting who co-discovered insulin (medicine of diabetes) along with his colleague Chalrles Best in 1922 is celebrated as the World Diabetes Day since then.
Nepal Diabetes Society, Rotary Club of Kathmandu and Rotary Club of Kantipur organized an interaction to mark the day.
Speaking at the program, the participants stressed on the need for government's attention to prevent and control the disease.
As per an estimated data, there are nearly 436,000 diabetes patients in Nepal currently.
