GUANGZHOU, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Ehsan Hadadi won the men's discus event Saturday at the Asian athletics championships, with an overwhelming mark of 64.83 meters.

Hadadi led the field from the start. He threw an unbeatable mark of 64.83m in is third attempt after shouting loudly to cheer himself. Hadadi's compatriot Mohammad Samimi took silver with 64.01m. Experienced Chinese star Wu Tao finished third with 59.27m.

The men's discus throw was just a competition between the two Iranians. Samimi was a silver medallist this year at the World University Games and had a seasonal best of 64.67m, while the form of Hadadi is unknown before the event as he has not recorded a result this year, but owns a massive personal best of 69.32m recorded in 2008.

"It is too cold today," said Samimi after the final. "But I feel happy with the result."

"The two Iranians should have performed better," commented the bronze medalist Wu. "They are really strong and will be the greatest rivals at the 2010 Asian Games."
