KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- High-risk groups in Malaysia will have access to 200,000 A/H1N1 flu vaccine doses by January next year, a Malaysian official said here on Saturday.

Malaysian Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai said after launching an anti-aedes campaign here that pregnant women and patients with chronic diseases in the country were among those who could receive injections of the vaccine.

Liow said the ministry was currently identifying those in the high-risk groups and injections should be made available by January next year.

Malaysia has ordered 400,000 A/H1N1 flu vaccine doses, half of which are allocated to frontliners like healthcare workers and civil servants.

Liow said research was being conducted to incorporate the A/H1N1 vaccine into the seasonal flu vaccine so that the newly produced vaccine could protect the vaccine recipients from all kinds of flu, including the A/H1N1 virus.

While he was uncertain of when the vaccine would be marketed, Liow said he hoped that it would also be by next year.
