BRASILIA, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will leave on Friday night for a trip to France where he will meet his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy, Brazil's Presidency said.

Right after, he will head for Italy, where a meeting with Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi is scheduled for Monday in Rome.

In Paris, Da Silva will discuss with Sarkozy on Saturday the proposals for the 15th UN Climate Change Conference (COP 15) to beheld in Copenhagen, Denmark, in December.

The Brazilian president will also inform his French counterpart about the call for a summit of the Amazon countries, to be held in Manaus on Nov. 26, to coordinate a joint position to be taken to COP 15.

Da Silva intends France to participate in this meeting, since French Guiana, an overseas French territory in northern Brazilian border, is included in the Amazon basin.

In his trip to Rome, Da Silva will meet on Monday with Berlusconi, and they will discuss the controversial case of former left-wing Italian activist Cesare Battisti.

Battisti, a former member of the Armed Proletarians for Communism group, received political asylum in Brazil in January but Italy claims his extradition for crimes committed in the 1970s.The possibility of extradition is being analyzed by the Brazilian Supreme Court.

Following his schedule, Lula da Silva will participate in the World Summit on Food Security organized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on Nov. 17-19.
