SEOUL, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- A conference on corporate social responsibility (CSR) was held here on Friday, where UN Networks in China, South Korea, and Japan jointly vowed to enhance efforts to enhance corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the region.

During the 2009 UN Global Compact China-Japan-Korea Roundtable Conference held here, the UN bodies of China, South Korea, and Japan agreed to annualize the forum as their official event and to expand exchanges and cooperation on ways to enhance CSR.

Georg Kell, the chief director of UN Global Compact Headquarters, welcomed the agreement among networks of the three countries, saying it will be of help to deal with global issues such as climate change, business environment improvement, anti-corruption, and labor relations.

The conference, supported by the UN Global Compact Headquarters, was held to raise public awareness of CSR and the UN Global Compact and to increase understanding of the role of the private sector in global economic and social development, according to the Global Compact South Korea said.

The event was attended by 40 delegates from China and Japan, as well as more than 200 business executives, CSR specialists, government officials and civil society leaders from the three countries.

Founded in 2002 by the United Nations Headquarters, UN Global Compact is regarded as the largest corporate citizenship and sustainability initiative in the world, providing a new means of promoting principles in the areas of human rights, labor standard, environment and anti-corruption.
