MEXICO CITY, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Visiting museums is more exciting than opening a book at school, some Mexican children claim.
"I like coming here more than listening to the teacher," Ingrid Arredondo, a 12-year-old girl, told Xinhua.
According to the National Council for Culture and Arts, there are a total of 127 museums in Mexico City, all of which are visited daily by thousands of children as part of their school activities.
Accompanied by her mother, Ingrid said she preferred to visit the museums than go to other places "because one gets very excited when learning something about history."
She added that the school began to give her such homework as going to museums or zoos three years ago.
Ingrid's mother said that she took her child to museums to review what they had learned at school, although the teacher did not request her to do so.
"I bring my children here because the exhibitions are more visual, and they can learn more by seeing this," the mother said, adding that when she was a child, she enjoyed going to museums herself to review what she had learned in class.
"My teachers used to take me here, and I want my daughter to do the same," Ingrid's mother added.
Alberto Ruiz, a 6-year-old boy who is visiting a museum for the first time, said that he learned more in one hour at the National Museum of Anthropology and History than at school.
"I would like to come here again; it is more interesting than what the teacher taught," Alberto said.
"If you see this, you can learn more," nine-year-old Candy Maciel chimed in.
There are altogether 1,058 museums in Mexico, including 173 archaeological museums and museums managed by the government.
