Foot-and-mouth disease in livestock reoccurs in Vietnam

    HANOI, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Foot-and-mouth disease in livestock re-emerged in two provinces of Vietnam after several months of being free from the disease, said a report of the animal health department under Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Thursday.

    In the northern Hoa Binh province, the foot-and-mouth disease stroke one local farm, causing 45 buffaloes and cows to be infected the disease. These infected livestock was tested positive with the foot-and-mouth disease virus, said the report.

    The disease hit the central province Nghe An of Vietnam, leading ten buffaloes to be infected the disease. Livestock samples tested by provincial animal health agency showed positive for the foot-and-mouth disease virus, said the report.

    Provincial authorities and local animal health officials have been taking measures to prevent the spread of the disease to the nearby areas, said the department.

    The foot-and-mouth disease is re-occurring in 12 provinces of Vietnam including seven northern provinces of Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Lai Chau, Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, Quang Ninh and newly-reported Hoa Binh and five central and highland provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Nam, Gia Lai, Dak Lak and newly-reported Nghe An.
