Macy's reports smaller loss in third quarter

    NEW YORK, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Macy's Inc., one of the largest U.S. department store, on Wednesday reported a smaller third-quarter loss.

    The Cincinnati-based company said that it lost 35 million U.S. dollars, or 8 cents per share, in the quarter ended Oct. 31, compared with 44 million dollars, or 10 cents per share, in the same period a year ago.

    Revenue fell almost 4 percent to 5.28 billion dollars while sales at stores open at least a year were down 7.5 percent in the quarter.

    Sales at stores open at least a year were down 7.5 percent in the quarter. Online sales, including macys.com and bloomingdales.com, rose 21.1 percent in the third quarter and 15.6 percent for the year to date.

    The company also raised its full-year guidance to 1.01 dollars to 1.06 dollars per share.
