GUANGZHOU, South China, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Japan's sprinter Chistato Fukushima clocked 11.27 seconds to win women's 100 meters on Wednesday at the Asian championships.

As the pre-event favorite, 21-year-old Fukushima did not allow any surprise. She fought a head wind of 1.0 meter per second to win, 0.23 seconds faster than Vietnam athlete Vu Thi Huong. India's Manjunath Jyothi Hiriyur took third place with 11.60 seconds.

Fukushima realized her dream to be number one. After winning the women's 100m heat Tuesday, she said she was always the second in previous events, and her goal since Beijing Olympics was "to work harder and harder and become No. one."

She was content with her performance. "Although Japan missed a lot of gold medals in this championships, I didn't think much of it, and try my best to keep in good form to compete," said she. "It's somewhat windy today, but I felt good. I'm so happy to win the gold medal with 11.27 seconds."

"I'm honored to compete in the championships. I've never participated in the Asian Games, but I hope I can compete in the best form and get good scores," said Fukushima, referring to her next goal.

Fukushima showed a strong interest in local culture. She showed her beautifully painted nails of Chinese elements and said with a smile: "The manicure may bring me luck."
