RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- The head coach of the Sao Paulo soccer team, Ricardo Gomes, expected on Tuesday that the tradition and history of the team's "winning culture" will carry the team to another Brazilian Championship title.
After 34 rounds of play this season, Sao Paulo assumed sole leadership for the first time.
"Sao Paulo have a long history, it is not something recent. Having played here, I am well aware of the winning culture that the club carry. It seems easy, but there has to be unity throughout the club, starting with the doorman, the security guards and all the way through," said Gomes.
"When a player enters the organization, he feels this culture and understands there is a higher level of professionalism."
With 59 points, Sao Paulo sit atop the point board. They are closely followed by Palmeiras with 58 points, Flamengo with 57 points and Atletico-MG with 56 points.
With only four matches remaining in the 2009 edition of the Brazilian Championship, Gomes has been intending to win every point possible, a total of 12, in order to guarantee his team's fourth-consecutive title.
On Saturday, Sao Paulo will host Vitoria. Then, on Nov. 22 the team will travel to play Botafogo before season's second-from-last against Goias on Nov. 29.
In the season close-up, Sao Paulo will host last-placed Sport on Dec. 6. On the same day, every team will play, allowing the winner of the tournament to be crowned.
