DHAKA, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Bangladesh Health Ministry said Sunday that the A/H1N1 flu death toll in the South Asian country so far rose to 6, and that the number of infected patients is 800.

Head of the country's Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) under the Health Ministry Mahmudur Rahman told Xinhua Sunday, "Three people died until the first week of October while three others died in the past one month."

Of the six dead, he said most of them live outside capital Dhaka. A laboratory test has confirmed that they were infected with A/H1N1 virus.

Rahman, however, said the number of A/H1N1 virus infected cases stood at 800 until Sunday, which was 680 on Oct. 11.

He said the chance of further outbreak of the disease in the country is very little because the intensity of winter in Bangladesh is not that helpful in transmission of the virus.

A/H1N1 pandemic flu has spread to nearly one third districts of Bangladesh since the country recorded the first virus-infected patient on June 18.

The Bangladeshi government had earlier asked hospitals to treat anyone who displays symptoms of A/H1N1 flu rather than waste time to have test report, after the virus claimed its first victim in the country on Aug. 31.
