PYONGYANG, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- A team of Chinese doctors have been giving free medical treatments for the patients who suffered cataracts and mouth diseases in Hamju, South Hamgyong province of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), from Monday to Friday, according to the Chinese embassy here.
They operated 50 cataract surgeries and 70 oral medical treatments during the week, and gave general ophthalmic examination for nearly 100 patients.
The free treatment was part of the activities of the "China-DPRK Friendship Year," which marked the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries. Twelve doctors and nurses took part in the treatment.
Chinese doctors also gave medical training for local medical staff and donated medical equipment and medicines worth of 400,000 RMB (about 58,650 U.S. dollars) to the Hamju People's Hospital.
