World Media Summit opens our horizon: NAN's Editor in Chief

    LAGOS, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Dipo Ogbede, Editor in Chief of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said, " the first World Media Summit hosted by Xinhua News Agency is a magnificent gathering and we have learnt a lot from it."

    Ogbede led a delegation from NAN to the first ever World Media Summit held in Beijing, China, on Oct. 8-10.

    In an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency TV in NAN's headquarters in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, he told Xinhua TV that the summit opened his horizon in news reporting and coverage.

    He described the summit as timely considering the impact of the global financial crisis in the media sector globally.

    He said the summit provided the ground for leaders and practitioners from the media world to know the development of the global financial crisis and proffer solution to the future development of the world media and the growth of the industry.

    According to Ogbede, the summit was an avenue for news media industry's players to network and enhance bilateral and multinational cooperation, especially in the cooperation on development of multimedia services.

    He said the gathering provided an opportunity for the world media organizations to exchange views and to enhance cooperation.

    He spoke highly of the Chinese government and Xinhua News Agency, the organizers of the event, for their courage and efforts for the initiative.

    The World Media Summit was attended by about 300 representatives from more than 170 media organizations across the world in early October.
