Gunmen kill state official and brother in S Philippines

    COTABATO, Philippines, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Gunmen in the southern Philippines killed a state official and his brother on Thursday, police said.

    The victims, Ali Datumanong, district officer of Manila's Land Transportation Office based in the southern city of Iligan and his younger brother, Akrab, were heading to office on board a private vehicle when they were attacked around 8:00 a.m. by motorcycle riding armed men in the village of Tubod in Iligan, said local police head Senior Superintendent Bernardo Reamon.

    Reamon said concerned motorists rushed the victims to the nearest hospital but they were proclaimed dead upon arrival.

    No one claimed responsibility for the killing. Police are looking into work related as possible motive of the victims' attackers.
