Moderate quakes hits northwest China

    BEIJING, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Two moderate earthquakes hit northwest China's Shaanxi and Qinghai Provinces Thursday, said China's national seismological network. No casualties have been reported.

    An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale struck Gaoling County, Shaanxi, at 7:31 a.m. The epicenter, at a depth of about 6km, was located at 34.5 degrees north latitude and 109.2 degrees east longitude, the network said.

    Tremor was felt in Xi'an City, the provincial capital.

    A 5.1-magnitude quake at a depth of 6 km jolted Haixi Mongolian-Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai at 5:56 a.m., the network said.

    The epicenter was at 37.6 degrees north latitude and 95.8 degrees east longitude, about 50 km from the Da Qaidam district.
