China tops gold medal tally at 3rd AIG

    HANOI, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- China took eight gold medals at the 3rd Asian Indoor Games on Wednesday, topping the gold medal tally with 26 golds.

    The Chinese boxing team embraced three gold medals on Wednesday. Zhang Qin, Dong Cheng and Yang Tingting won gold medals in the women' s 54kg, 60kg and 69 kg categories respectively.

    In the chess games, Chinese player Bu Xiangzhi and Hou Yifan won golds in men's single rapid chess and women' s single rapid chess respectively.

    Chinese player Guo Fan took the first place in the women' s 200-meter individual medley swimming competition. Jin Long won a gold medal at the men's single snooker. Chinese players also won in the women' s team match of shuttlecock.

    On the gold medal tally, China is followed by host Vietnam with21 golds and Kazakhstan with 11 golds.

    The third Asian Indoor Games, running until Nov. 8, attracted the 2,500athletes from 43 countries and regions. About 242 gold medals are on offer in 21 games.

    The games include indoor track and field, short course swimming, dancing, boxing, chess, shuttlecock, billiards and snooker, computer games and many others.
