44 children missing in past week in Nepali capital

    KATHMANDU, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- A total of 44 children went missing in a week in Nepali capital Kathmandu, according to a statement issued by the National Center for Children at Risk on Wednesday.

    The center said 44 children went missing between Oct. 24 and 30.Among them 32 have been found and some of them have been handed over to their families while some others are being kept in the NGO-run child homes.

    Of the missing children, 25 are boys and 19 are girls.

    "Many children go missing during the festival times." Nepal National News Agency RSS cited Malati Shahi, chief of the center Police Inspector as saying.

    According to the National Center for Children at Risk, 10 abandoned children had also been found during the same period.

    Most of the missing children are aged between 10 and 15 years and mainly from Kavre, Dhading and Nuwakot districts in Nepali Central Development Region, the center said.
