SRINAGAR, India-controlled Kashmir, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) ¨C Security in Jammu, the winter capital of India-controlled Kashmir, has been beefed up Wednesday in view of Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram's visit to the region.
Chidambaram arrived in Jammu this morning and would visit Jagti-Nagrota on the outskirts of Jammu to inspect the construction work of flats meant for Kashmiri migrants, mostly Hindu families.
Tight security arrangements have been made in and around the city toward any eventuality.
"Adequate security arrangements have been made Tuesday evening ahead of home minister's visit," said a police official.
According to officials, 4,218 flats are being built in the area and the work is expected to be completed by May 2010.
Kashmiri Hindus, commonly called Pandits, migrated from the Muslim majority towns of the region toward Jammu city and some northern Indian states soon after the insurgency broke out in the region in 1990.
Chidambaram would be addressing the local Congress party workers.
