NEW DELHI, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- After details of Pakistan-based banned militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) plot to target India's National Defense College emerged, India Wednesday said that it has taken adequate precautions to protect the prestigious military institution in the national capital.
"There is a constant review of threat perceptions and targets, and we work on the safeguards adequately. You can be rest assured that adequate precaution is taken wherever there is a threat perception," Indian Minister of State for Defense M. Pallam Raju told the media.
Earlier on Wednesday, U.S. prosecutors claim that David Coleman Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana, who were arrested by the FBI at the Chicago airport in October, were part of an LeT plan of a major terror attack the National Defense College in Delhi.
The FBI said the main target was the National Defense College but there are several important buildings around the campus targeted as well.
Birla House, the place where Mahatma Gandhi was gunned down, is frequented by tourists and is a stone throws away.
Other foreign offices like the Dutch Embassy and French Cultural Center are also in the area, which could be under threat, according to the FBI.
The National Defense College is to impart training in national and international security related fields to selected senior Indian Defense and Civil Services officers and to promote research and understanding of various linked issues by creating the necessary academic environment for such work.
